Nine in a Line Brewing

BRANDING

Opportunity

Nine in a Line Brewing is a new brewery and taproom located in Vulcan, Alberta. Longtime friends Dave and Dan came to us with a plan to open a new brewery in downtown Vulcan. Locals to the area, they had everything they needed to get started; except a brand. We teamed up with them to create a clean and modern brand for their new brewery and taproom.

“Nine in a Line” refers to the row of grain elevators that for over fifty years, added to Vulcan’s skyline.

Approach

Agriculture in Vulcan

Vulcan has a rich history in farming and agriculture. For over fifty years, Vulcan was a main stop for trains carrying grain across the country. The name “Nine in a Line” pays tribute to the line of grain elevators that once defined the Vulcan skyline. We wanted the new brand to pay tribute to this history. We drew inspiration from old farm signage and hand lettering to come up with two unique logos for the Nine in a Line brand, both representative of the row of nine grain elevators.

Swag and collateral

We kept swag and other branded collateral minimal, focusing on integrating the brand logos, colours and typography. The Nine in a Line brand colours are bright and energetic, inspired by some of the original colours used in early grain elevator design. We chose a square, rigid font for the Nine in a Line wordmark, giving a nod to old farm signage and hand lettering.

Solution

We worked with Dave and Dan at Nine in a Line Brewing to create a clean, modern logo. With brand elements inspired by Vulcan’s historical past, the Nine in a Line brand is bright, energetic and timeless.
